Carlo De Filippi
After having lived across Europe and Africa, and following various experiences in the development sector, Francesco has acquired a true passion for sustainable development which started during his post-graduate studies. He holds a bachelor degree in political science from the University of Edinburgh as well as a Masters in International Public Affairs from LUISS School of Government and an MBA from Rome Business School. Having started with experiences working for NGO’s, in recent years he has shifted towards development finance, international organizations as well as impact funds, focusing on sustainable development, SDGs and blended finance.
Having started a career as a lawyer in Finance and Banking, Riccardo ascended into the Energy and development sector first as an Investment Advisor for the Ugandan Government and subsequently as a consultant for European companies specialized in rural development and electrification. After having co-founded Absolute Energy Africa in which he launched and implemented the company’s holistic rural electrification model, he development numerous partnerships with international financial institutions, NGO’s, impact funds and foundations, until creating his own Rural electrification company: Equatorial Power. Currently, he is the CEO of Equatorial Power and was appointed as Non-Executive Director of the Board of Umeme, Uganda’s national energy distribution company.
Nataliey is a Ugandan young entrepreneur: co-founder and Director at Musana Carts, current Chief of Staff at Simba Group and the Chief Executive Officer at Energrow. Nataliey holds a Masters of Social Entrepreneurship (MSC) from Hult International Business School and a Dual Honors Bachelor of Business Management and Education Studies (BA) from Keele University, Staffordshire, UK. In 2017, she became the Director of Project 500K, a youth empowerment program aimed at helping young Ugandans become entrepreneurs. Currently, Nataliey is launching Energrow, which is a company focused on supporting disadvantaged rural customers in Uganda and increasing energy access through sustainable demand growth with a data and financial inclusion backbone. In 2016, The World Economic Forum named her as one of the Top 5 African innovators and in 2018, she won the Young Achievers award in the business category and was named on the 2018 Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Following a career as a development consultant and agronomist in developing countries around Africa, Carlo has held numerous roles as a senior expert for the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, until he began his career as a European civil servant in which he served as Ambassador and Head of Delegation where he represented the E.U. in trade, political and development matters and established numerous development projects throughout the African continent.
From early beginnings working alongside African Governments for the financing of development projects on behalf of the first European Development Fund, Donato continued his ascent in different EU diplomatic ranks across European Delegations throughout Africa and Eastern Europe first as Ambassador and Head of Delegation and secondly as Special Envoy for Human Rights in Iraq and Iran until he became Special Envoy for the European Commission during negotiations with the World Bank and African Governments.
Starting from his postgraduate studies on rural cooperatives and agricultural development, Balduin undertook a career as a project manager and advisor for rural development projects on behalf of several African and South East Asian Governments until becoming Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union in which he served across Africa and the developing world, covering the establishment of extensive development ventures, until becoming a consultant for different entities ranging from Governments to International Organizations.
Trained as an Economist both in undergraduate (BSc in Economics with Econometrics) and postgraduate (MSc in Economics) level, Iria has worked in both Financial Consulting and Economic Consulting. Iria’s expertise lie in the financial services and energy sectors, having worked for one of the largest insurance firms in the world, as well as some of the largest utilities firms.
